The CUSTOM PERMISSIONS tab is the configuration workspace where administrators define field-level governance across Neostella.
This tool enables admins to create and manage permissions for system fields and custom fields, particularly predefined fields that require controlled visibility or edit access. It extends access control beyond object or system level, allowing control directly at the data field layer.
Administrators can create new custom permissions, configure visibility and edit access levels.
CUSTOM PERMISSIONS support field configurations created across Customization, Forms, and Views tools within the Control Center. Their impact is ultimately reflected in the Cases workspace, where users experience the governed field behavior.
CUSTOM PERMISSIONS operate with two permission types:
| Permission Type | Access Levels Available | Description |
| View | Any / Related / Own / None | Controls field visibility across projects, objects, views and forms where the field is included. This is the governing permission. |
| Edit | Any / Related / Own / None | Controls the ability to modify governed fields. Edit cannot exceed the level granted in View. |
For example:
- If View = Related, Edit cannot be set to Any.
- If View = Own, Edit can only be Own or None.
- If View = None, Edit cannot be granted.
In other words, the Edit permission must always be equal to or more restrictive than the View permission.

The + NEW CUSTOM PERMISSION button provides direct access to create a new custom permission configuration.
Selecting this button opens the creation workflow where administrators define the governed field and assign its visibility and edit hierarchy.
Once created, the custom permission becomes available across all Permission Sets in the system. Administrators can then enable or configure it within each Permission Set as needed.
