A section in any Form is a structural element that organizes fields within a form. Sections help group related fields.

Types of Sections:

  • Form Sections
  • Collection Sections
  • Project Details Sections

Section Setting Interface

The Section Settings interface lets users customize section properties. It includes:

1. Section name.
2. Sections of your form.
3. Total number of fields in the section.
4. Delete icon.
5. Expand button.
6. Drag-and-drop button.
7. Section Settings menu.
8. Add field button
9. Add Section button

Types of Sections In Portal Forms

Forms sections are categorized into three main types: 

  • Form Sections
    A Form Section is the main area where users enter information.
  • Collection Sections
    These are dynamic collections in Filevine, meaning that users can add additional items based on the information required. The admin has the option to set a Collection Section to a Form Section using the Set as Form Section option, which prevents users from adding new items and viewing previously created items.
  • Project Details Sections
    In this section, administrators can add project-specific information, such as contact cards. 

Add New Sections To a Form

To add a new section, click the Add Section button.

Each form can have a maximum of 5 sections.



How to Create a Form Section

To create a form section, follow these steps:

1. Select a section and locate the Section Settings menu.
2. Enter a Section Name.
3. In the Section Type field select Form.
4. Click Apply.

How to Create a Collection Section

To create a Collection Section in a form, follow these steps:

1. Select a section and locate the Section Settings menu.
2. Enter a Section Name.
3. In the Section Type field select Collection.
4. Click Apply. The Collection, Collection Title, and Set as a Form Section options will appear.
5. Select a collection from Filevine in the Collection field.
6. (Optional) Set a Collection title. Fields must be added to the form’s Collection section before you can select the Collection Title.
7. (Optional) Activate the toggle Set as a Form Section to prevent users from adding multiple items and viewing previously created items.
8. Click Apply.

How to Create a Project Details Section

Follow these steps to create a Project Details Section in a form:

1. Select a section and locate the Section Settings menu.
2. Enter a Section Name or choose one from the existing options
3. In the Section Type field select Project Details.
4 Click Apply.
