Schema - Global Objects - Overview

Overview

Global Objects is a feature that allows users to have a unique source of information inside the platform.

With this, users can manage shared reference data that is reusable across multiple workspaces or entities. Users have edit access only from the Global Objects section in the Control Center.

With Global Objects, users avoid the need to duplicate or manually update the related information and keep consistency across all related cases.

Legal Examples: Mass Tort - Jurisdiction

Jurisdiction represents the legal authority or court system responsible for a matter. The jurisdiction may differ from the location of the client or the event associated with the case.

Scenario:

A law firm manages 1,500 cases related to the same Mass Tort litigation. Although the clients live in different states, the cases share the same designated jurisdiction.

Instead of storing the same jurisdiction information separately in each case, the firm can create a single Jurisdiction Global Object and associate it with all applicable cases.

Jurisdiction Global Object: U.S. District Court:

  • Mass Tort Case 001
  • Mass Tort Case 002
  • Mass Tort Case 003
  • Additional associated Mass Tort cases
  • Mass Tort Case 1,500

Outcome:

When information associated with the jurisdiction changes, the firm can update the Global Object once, making the updated information available across the associated cases.

This example demonstrates how Global Objects centralize shared information that needs to remain consistent and reusable across multiple cases.

Next step

Configuring the relationship with a Project

Users must create a relationship field in the Project to associate it with a Global Object.

To do it, users must follow this steps:

  1. Go to Schema -> Data -> Project (The selected project for this example will be Claim).
  2. Select Claim; this will open the Object Editor.
  3. In the FIELDS Tab, Click on +NEW to add a Field.
  4. Add a Name in the Field Setup.
  5. In the Field Type selector look for Relationship.
  6. Now look for the Global Object in the Related Object selector.
  7. Then, SAVE.

These steps are to create a relationship between the Project and the Global Object. It allows the users to update the related project information every time the Global Object is changed.

Key Components

Global Objects Section

This section allows users to visualize and manage the Global Objects in the tenant.

Here users can search, filter, and manage the created Global Objects list.

Global Objects can be configured to have one or more Records in a context. When this restriction is deactivated, the Global Object displays the multiple Records on a list.

*Reference image on the Object editor of the SETTINGS tab. Here users can find the Availability & Sharing settings to deactivate this toggle per “Global” restriction.

Global Object Records

When clicking an object and depending on the type, either the edit drawer or the Records will open.

Multiple Records List:
