This article explains how to manage the Settings tab when working with an Object. The Settings tab behaves slightly differently depending on whether it is an Organization, Project, or Persona context.
How to Change the Object Name
To update the object name:
1. Click the Name field and clear the existing value.
2. Enter the new object name.
3. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To change the object name, start by clicking the Name field and clearing the existing value.
Enter the new object name you want to use.

2. Keep in mind, the object name is automatically assigned when the object is first created in the New Object Editor, but it can be updated later at any time from the Settings tab.

How to Edit the API Name
The API Name is automatically generated when the object is created. Once generated, the API Name is immutable and does not change, even if the object name is updated.
The API Name cannot be edited manually. It can be copied for reference or used in integrations, but it will remain the same throughout the object’s lifecycle.
How to Activate or Deactivate the Object
Objects are active by default when they are created. To activate or deactivate an object:
1. Click the Active toggle:
- Blue to activate the object.
- Gray to inactivate the object.
2. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

System objects cannot be deactivated. They are core components of the platform.
How to Edit the Plural Name
To update the plural name of an object:
1. Click the Plural Name field.
2. Clear the existing value.
3. Enter the new plural name.

How to Select a Context
The Context defines where the object lives within the platform. To select a context:
1. Click the Context dropdown menu.
2. Select the appropriate context.
After selecting a context, the system displays related lists (such as Project, Contact, or Organization lists) using checkboxes.
3. Select the lists where the current object should be available.
4. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To select a context for an object,
this determines how and where the object is used within the platform.
First, click the Context dropdown menu.

2. And select a context.

3. This displays the available object types for that context.
Next, select the object type by clicking the corresponding checkbox to link the object to that type.

When configuring an object that already belongs to a Project or Contact context, the Context dropdown may not appear.
How to Restrict to One Per {Context}
It is possible to restrict how the object behaves within projects. To restrict the object:
1. Enable the Restrict to one per Project checkbox.
2. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To restrict an object to one instance per context, this setting ensures that only a single record can exist for each context.
First, enable the Restrict to one per checkbox.

2. When you’re ready, click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE to apply the change.

3. That's it. You have restricted to one per context.

How to Share Values Within a Context
Object values can be shared across records within the same context. To share values within a context:
1. Enable the Share values within context checkbox.
2. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

How to Allow the Object For Other Tools
The Allow for setting controls which tools and areas of the platform can use the object. To allow the object for specific tools:
1. Click the Allow for dropdown menu.
2. Select the tools where this object should be available.
3. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.
