How to Manage the FIELDS Tab

This article explains how to use and manage the FIELDS tab within the Object Builder. The information includes how to add, search, filter, organize, configure, and delete fields, as well as how different filters and settings affect field behavior in forms.

How to Add a New Field

To create a new field in the object:

1. Click on the + NEW button.
A new field is added to the Fields menu and is immediately available to be edited and configured.
3. Edit the field.
2. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To add a new field, in the FIELDS tab start by clicking the + NEW button.

3. Edit the field as needed.

How to Search for a Field

A specific field can quickly be located by using the search bar:

1. Click on the Search bar.
2. Enter the field name or part of the name.

Fields that contain the entered text are automatically filtered and displayed in the Fields menu.

How to Filter by Locked, Hidden, and Archived Fields

To view only locked fields:

1. Click the Locked button.
The Fields menu displays only fields that are currently locked.

This filter depends on the limitations configured in the Limitations field of the field setup.

To view only hidden fields:

1. Click the Hidden button.
The Fields menu displays only fields that are currently hidden.

This filter depends on the limitations configured in the Limitations field of the field setup.

To view only archived fields:

1. Click the Archived button.
The Fields menu displays only fields that are archived.

1. To filter fields by status, use the locked, hidden, and archived buttons.

2. Click Locked to display only fields that are currently locked.

How to Filter by Type, Group, Limitations, or Sali Tag

To apply advanced filters:

1. Click the Filter button.
2. Use the dropdown menus to select one or more options for Field Type, Field Group, Limitations or Sali Tag.
While selecting them, the Fields menu updates automatically to show only matching fields.

How to Drag and Drop Fields

To reorder fields directly from the Fields menu:

1. Click and hold the field expected to be moved.
2. Drag it to the desired position.
3. Release the field.
4. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

How to Set Up a Field

To configure a field, follow these steps:

1. Enter the field Name.
2. Review the API Name.
3. Select a Field Type. Some field types display additional configuration options that must be completed.
4. Select Limitations (optional).
5. Select Custom Permissions (optional).
6. Select Field Groups (optional).
7. Select the Sali Tag (optional).
8. Enable the Required checkbox (optional).
9. Enable Include in Quick Search (optional).
10. Select or create the Type (optional).
11. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To configure a field, create a new field by clicking on the + NEW button.

2. Entering the field Name.

3. Review the automatically generated API Name.

4. Next, select a Field Type.

Some field types require additional configuration, which will appear once the type is selected, how to indicate if it's in a subtype or list.

5. Select a Limitation.

6. Select a Custom Permission.

7. Select the Field Groups.

8. Select the Sali Tag.

9. You may also choose to mark the field as Required.

10. You may also choose to mark the field as Include In Quick Search.

11. Click restrict to a specific type and select a type.

12. Once all settings are configured, click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE to apply the changes.

13. That's it. You have set up a field.

How to Delete a Field

To permanently remove a field:

1. Click the field to be deleted.
2. Click the Delete button.
The field is removed automatically.
3. Click YES, DELETE {field name}?
4. Click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE.

1. To permanently remove a field, select the field you want to delete.

2. Click the delete button.

3. Confirm the action by clicking YES, DELETE {field name}?

4. Finally, click SAVE or SAVE AND CLOSE to apply the changes.

5. That's it. You're done.

Next step

If data has been already created with a field, it will not have the option to be deleted.
Deleting a field may impact forms, data, and processes that rely on it. Proceed with caution.
