Overview
You can configure AWS to provide a daily or weekly report of all of the objects that are stored in an S3 bucket. This can be especially helpful when working with Filevine File Sync, if you want to audit what has been stored in S3, or when working with Neostella Support.
To create an S3 Inventory Configuration, complete the following steps:
Step-by-Step
1. We recommend creating a new bucket to receive the inventory reports, to perform the process it is recommended to use the following guide:
AWS - How to Set Up an S3 Bucket
We recommend to use the same name as the bucket you will be reporting on, using a "-support" at the end of the bucket name, e.g. mycompany-neostella-filesync-support
2. To set up the S3 Inventory Configuration, log into your AWS account, and go to the Amazon S3 Console page. You can type S3 into the search blank and find it there, or go to this link (S3 Console)
2. Choose the bucket to which you want to set up the Inventory Configuration by clicking on its name
3. Click on the "Management" tab, go to the "Inventory configurations" section and click "Create inventory configuration"
4. Fill in the following values in the configuration
Inventory configuration name: you can use any name you want, we recommend the use of the bucket name followed by "-inventory", for ease and readability, e.g. mycompany-neostella-filesync-inventory
Inventory scope: Leave the defaults. (Prefix should be blank, Object versions should be "Current version only")
Report details: Choose "This account".
In the Destination section click on the "Browse S3" button and select the newly created bucket from Step 1 (e.g. the one ending in -support) and click on choose path in the lower right corner.
Frequency: select Daily or Weekly depending on inventory reporting needs
Output format: we recommend choosing CSV
Status: selected Enable, otherwise this inventory report will not run.
Inventory report encryption: Leave the defaults. (Server-side encryption should be "Do not specify an encryption key")
Additionaal metadata fields: We recommend checking "Size" and "Last modified". If you have other needs, you can enable additional metadata fields.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Create".
5. That's it! You have just created an inventory report for the files in your S3 bucket.
It can take 24-48 hours before the first reports will run. You will find them in the destination bucket you specified when setting up the Inventory Configuration.
Note, we also recommend that you adjust the bucket permissions on the destination S3 bucket to allow Neostella Vinebots access to the reports to help us audit the File Sync process.
