#4.3 Process Studio Editor – Data Drawer

  • Updated

A. What Is the Data Drawer?

The Data Drawer is a tool that lets you pull information from previous steps in the process and reuse it in the current node. This is useful for decision-making, automations, and personalizing outputs.

💡 Tip: You can retrieve:

  • Data from the Trigger (how the process started)
  • Data from previous nodes (past steps in the process)

B. Key Fields in the Data Drawer

  • From field: Select the source of the data (Trigger or Node).
  • Output field: Choose the exact piece of data you want to use.

C. Using the Data Drawer in Conditional Nodes

Conditional Nodes let you define “If this, then that” logic. Use the Data Drawer to fill the condition values.

Steps to add data:

  1. Click on the Conditional Node.
  2. Click in the Variable or Value field.
  3. The Data Drawer opens.
  4. In the From dropdown, select:
  • A Node (must be saved first)
  • Or the Trigger
  1. In the Output dropdown, find the value you want.
  2. Click the Insert Datapoint button.
  3. The selected data appears in the Criterion Specifications block.

D. Understanding the “From” Options

From Option Description
Node Pulls data from a previous action in the process. Make sure the node has been saved so its output is available.
Trigger Pulls data from the event that started the process (e.g., Filevine update). Outputs depend on the project type and section selected in the trigger.

E. Example – Trigger with Filevine

When using Filevine as the trigger, output fields are based on the Project Type and Section you set in the trigger.

For Example:

  • App: Filevine
  • Project Type: AJFV - Immigration (10/01)
  • Section: Case Overview

Note: The Data Drawer will show only the fields that exist in the Case Overview section of Filevine projects under that project type.

F. You’ve Learned

The Data Drawer helps you:

  • Reuse outputs from previous steps
  • Build smarter conditional logic
  • Tailor processes using real-time values

Always remember:

  • Save nodes before pulling data from them
  • Check section settings in triggers (especially for Filevine) to understand what outputs will be available

Next Module: Setting Up an If/Else (Conditional) Node.
